‘The Masked Singer’ recap: An icon is revealed after Group B brings the spooks in ‘Ghostbusters Night’ (1)

There was something strange in the neighborhood on tonight's episode of The Masked Singer, but the Group B contestants ain't afraid of no ghost! On "Ghostbusters Night," panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora transformed into ghost busting detectives along with an iconic visit from an original Ghostbuster, Ernie Hudson.

During the summer of 1984 this comedy classic became the number one movie of the year and since then, its legacy has lived on and permeated pop culture with countless cartoons, films, and merchandise. Group B brought the house down with amazing performances before one iconic celebrity revealed themselves in the all-new "Ghostbusters Night" episode of The Masked Singer that aired Wednesday, March 12 (8 p.m. ET/PT) on Fox.

Pearl

First up tonight was Pearl, who had a few ghost stories of her own: "You know, everyone's got a few skeletons in their closet — a few ghost stories — and I'm no exception. As a young Pearl, I was stuck in tiny little tide pool off the side of a highway no one has ever heard of. My home life was rocky to say the least — so I drifted away before I even hit high school. I found myself, just a kid, tending bar in a hopeless place, serving up drinks with a double barrel at the ready in case the clientele got crazy. I couldn't wait to get out. I dreamed about it every day. Until one day, I decided to swim into new waters, launching myself almost by accident into a tidal wave of success. Now looking back, it's funny, I appreciate all I learned from that tide pool. It showed me you work hard, you show up, and no matter what you keep fighting. So all I know is, these days, I ain't afraid of nothing. Especially no ghost!

Pearl sang "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult. Following the performance, the Men in Black revealed she's a "Best Seller," to which Pearl responded, "I'm a bit of ghost writer myself. I know how to put pen to paper." The panelists' guesses were Joan Jett (Rita), Madonna (Ken), and Melissa Etheridge (Robin).

Griffin

Next up was Griffin, who explained why he's a monsterGhostbustersfan: "Making it toGhostbustersnight feels like freaky fate because I played that soundtrack on repeat as a kid. Growing up, I loved to sing. Believe it or not, there's nothing I loved more than Broadway. I was a total theater geek — collecting playbills long before it was cool. But the kids my age didn't understand — they showed no mercy — teasing me relentlessly saying, 'Why are you doing that?' Dark thoughts started to creep in my mind, so I hid that part of myself, literally. I built a fort with a record player where I would sing my heart out. That's thatGhostbusters soundtrack came in. Being here has allowed me to tap back into that passion I was too embarrassed to show as a kid. It's liberating spreading my wings. So tonight, here's a dark pop anthem for all you kids being called freaks or geeks. Welcome to the club.

Griffin sang "Disturbia" by Rihanna. Following the performance, Mckenna Grace sent in a clue, stating, "Not only is he an incredible performer, but he's an even better person. He's like a dad on set. I'd know this because I've costarred with him." Griffin responded, "Mckenna's fantastic, she's had a great career, and one of my kids thinks I'm very cool because I've once worked with her." The panelists' guesses were Freddie Prinze Jr. (Rita), Jason Segel (Ken), and Robert Pattinson (Jenny).

Space Ranger

The third performer tonight was Space Ranger and the out-of-this-world entertainer had a few words to say before taking the stage: "Just like the Ghostbusters had their Ecto-1, I also had a vehicle change my life. Before my career took off, I was doing odd jobs — everything from catering to schlepping furniture around New York in the hot summer. Then one day, me and my partner came up with a crazy idea in the back of a moving van. We had big dreams, but no one was really wanting to hitch a ride with this old cowboy. So who you gonna call? I know who I did. A beastly band of boys who ended up boosting up our careers into hyperdrive — and helped our group start a worldwide movement. We took our show on the road and cleaned up on the town. Yep, it was scary success — so here's a spooky song in honor of the baddest ghostbusting group of cats in town."

Space Ranger sang "Cleanin' Up the Town" by The Busboys. Following the performance, a globe was brought out on stage. Space Ranger responded, "The Ghostbusters always saved the day. And I woulda helped them out, but I was busy touring the world." The panelists' guesses were Tracy Morgan (Robin), DJ Jazzy Jeff (Ken), and Flavor Flav (Jenny and Rita).

Boogie Woogie

Last on deck tonight was Boogie Woogie, who shared a few clues about himself that were nothing to fear: "Just like inGhostbusters, there are ghosts everywhere. You know what I do? I put on my headphones and I just keep movin'. You wanna gossip? Super not my thing! I try to keep it positive with everything I do, which is something I learned from my parents at a very young age. I mean, I'm in kids shows so it makes sense. They did everything they could to give me a really good life. Little did I know that sunny outlook would spark my whole career — and that's what I've become known for. I've been told that my positivity radiates and that it's even saved lives. Imagine that! But of course with all the optimism comes criticism. Some people call me naive, sheltered, fake. I'm not gonna lie, that hurts. But I'm not going to stop being me. I can't! And if it continues to make people happy then I have done my job. But for tonight only, I'm tapping into a darkness that I never show to spook the competition."

Boogie Woogie sang "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons. Following the performance, Ernie Hudson brought out a clue that read, "Doctorate of medical science." Boogie Woogie responded, "Nothing's scary about this clue. In fact, being attached to this show was a very pleasant surprise." The panelists guesses were George Clooney (Ken), Neil Patrick Harris (Jenny), and Jason Mraz (Rita).

The Elimination

Following the audience vote, Space Ranger was eliminated from the competition. Before he revealed himself, the panelists got to open up a "Crack the Case" clue case. Space Ranger's case held a pair of white sunglasses. When asked what it means, he responded, "When you shine as bright as I have, sometimes you've just gotta go incognito. Plus, I really think I look pretty fly in them anyways." The panelists then submitted their final guesses: Flavor Flav (Jenny, Robin, and Rita) and DJ Jazzy Jeff (Ken). When Space Ranger ripped off his outer space face, he was revealed to be hip-hop icon and hype man, Flavor Flav. There was no mistaking that one!
